WHERE:
Our annual Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs event was a great success! On June 21st we hosted 93 children ages 9-13 all of whom received a commemorative T-shirt. We had 76 Volunteers including 28 deputies, 26 VBBFC members and friends, 26 members of Commonwealth challenge, 9 teachers and parents, and 1 college intern.
Unfortunately, due to high winds and rain we were unable to get the kids out on the water for the fishing portion of the day, but we still taught them all of the basics. Our 6 morning sessions consisted of a presentation from the Virginia Aquarium by Mike Mizell, fish and marine life identification (which is always a hit!), knot tying, rod and reel handling, and NEW this year intro to deep sea fishing rods and lures!
Missing the fishing trips was not a total loss, as we were able to get the little ones out for a trip to the Virginia Aquarium where they got to see all kinds of marine life and even pet some rays.
Lunch was provided after the morning session by Zeros Subs with drinks from J&A Racing and we had a nice cookout dinner afterward provided in part by the Sherriff’s Canteen.
The kids had a great time as evidenced in the many photos courtesy of our very own Lauren Arcese.
Thank you to our Sponsors and Volunteers!
